How to plan your tapas crawl

  • Early evening: Start with a gentle drink and a few small bites at Mercado de San Miguel.
  • Prime time: Move on to two or three classic bars in La Latina or around Plaza Mayor.
  • Late night: Finish with churros or a final drink near Sol or in Huertas.

Before you go

  • Eat standing at the bar when possible—this is often cheaper and feels more local than sitting at a table.
  • Order slowly: one or two small dishes at each stop, then move on rather than over‑ordering in one place.
  • Carry some cash as a backup; while cards are widely accepted, small bars sometimes prefer cash for low bills.
